The third of seven letters that Jesus commissioned John to write on the Island of Patmos was to the church in Pergamum.  This church, placed in wealthy city filled with idol worship focused on worship of Greek gods including Athena and Zeus.  But – the problem with this church is that they were compromising – a little church – a little idol worship.  They were not fully devoted followers of Jesus and  their motto would be, “A little God  – a little world, a little Church – a little idol worship, a little bible study – a little worldly influence.”  For this church – they were filled with compromise and Jesus was calling them to repentance.
